It’s monday morning and I decided to kick this week off with a picture post, before getting into work. I made myself a cup of damn fine and very hot coffee and I try to set the mood by pretending my MacBook is making typewriter sounds as I write. Seems like a good way to jump into a new week. Soon it’ll be work, work and work and who knows how many days it’ll be until I’ll be able to explore the streets again.

Last week I shot a lot and tried to practise as much I could.  Here are few images that I actually forgot to post. Last week I did at least couple of so called photo walks in the center of Helsinki. I have a certain route that I go through. I like few specific spots that I circle around. Now I kinda feel like I’ve gone through those places so many times that it feels almost nauseating. I’ve almost exhausted those places. Before switching the scenery completely though, I want to exhaust myself completely and try to push the creativity a bit. Now that I feel I’ve gone those certain spots through too many times, and don’t know how to utilise them anymore, it forces to think what else there is to the spots. I’ve used all my initial ideas and elementary approaches and now I have to think something else.

Looking at these images critically, there aren’t that many great shots in the bunch. These are the so called keepers from that particular roll and they are all pretty unrelated random moments. I am not a huge fan of a really bright f16 direct sunlight. I actually prefer a slight overcast. The hard shadows and overblown contrast is one thing that doesn’t usually please my eye too much. But that’s ok though. That’s not the biggest problem with these images. There were few good moments that were pleasing in that sense, that I was able to reach fast enough. As an act of street photography, it was pretty good performance. Too bad though that the actual results didn’t yield portfolio material. But hey, practise makes perfect.

Little boys at the park. What they are looking at, remains a mystery. Okay, I can reveal that to you. They are looking at soap bubbles. Would have been awesome to include them into the photo, which is pretty much where this photo fails a bit.
Bicycle riders. Shot from the other side of the street, which I don’t like very much. Not much more interesting than shooting a person walking by, from across the street.
Cool looking guy. Slightly out of focus due to bad pre-focused hip shot. Nice lighting and tones. The guy looks interesting even thought there aren’t that much happening in the images. At least it’s somewhat close shot.
Stumbled upon my old study mate who was trying to heal his girlfriends busted ankle.
Driving her vintage car.
Nice composition and interesting elements, but bad timing. I was supposed to take a shot as he’s stepping out of the car, but that’s harder to pull of as you might think.
Bad girls smoking cigs and having beers. Beers or energy drinks. I don’t know what the kids drink these days. Semi good shot. I like the angle, but it’s not close enough.
